Douglas McKell, MS, MSc
Professor McKell has over 20 years of experience in physician practice management for a wide variety of single and multi-specialty group practices. He was the managing partner of a physician consulting firm for 10 years and has been the Chief Executive Officer of four physician-owned practices of 50 to 100+ physicians over the past 12 years. In his current position, he is responsible for physician contracts, managed care agreements, physician productivity and the effective performance of a 70+ physician group practice.
Originally from Southern California, Professor McKell graduated with honors from the University of California. From there he went on to study at schools around the world and is currently pursuing doctoral studies at Oxford University in Evidence-Based Medicine. He is also Lean Six Sigma certified. As a result of his experience and studies, Professor McKell brings significant strategic, operational and performance improvement knowledge to physician organizations. He has managed the development of a number of successful medical and surgical business lines, both as separate revenue services and in cooperation with hospital programs, including several 50/50 joint ventures.
Professor McKell currently lives in Springfield, Massachusetts. His outside interests include competing in non-wetsuit long distance swimming events. He was the captain of a 4-person relay team selected as one of 20 relay teams for the 2012 Swim Round Manhattan (28.5 miles) and qualified for a relay swim of the English Channel in 2013. He also has a trained obedience and therapy dog, Art, who accompanies him on visits to hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers and physician offices.
