Mr. Barry has worked in both Student Affairs and Academic Affairs over the past 12 years, which included direct oversight of multiple areas of higher education in and out of the classroom. This varied professional background provides context into communal diversity as a wide-ranging view of educational growth and development.

Teaching Philosophy:
With a continued passion for assisting students through the experience of higher education through to their career, Mr. Barry brings real-world scenarios and experiences into the classroom. Mr. Barry’s move from Student Affairs to Academics has proven to be a life-changing experience. He has been able to find a whole new passion for teaching in the classroom by bridging the curriculum to practical application through life experience. When asked how his previous positions influenced his teaching Mr. Barry stated, “student learning in the classroom should parallel a student’s life experience by providing the context of theoretical concepts to practical application through reflective examination of life experiences.”

Personal Background:
Mr. Barry has spent time in several places throughout his life, including Connecticut, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Texas, and two years in the remote Alaska village of Galena, which has provided him with a unique appreciation for diversity. He has been a coach of several sports for many years (baseball, hockey, volleyball) from youth organizations, high school, to college athletics. As a former college baseball and volleyball player, he still enjoys these sports along with Graphic Design/Photography.

Research/Academic Interests:
Mr. Barry’s interests focus on Organizational Leadership and the intangibles that make great leaders. His current doctoral research focuses on transformational leadership and the mediating factors of psychological empowerment on organizational culture.
