Kara A. Stevens, CPA, DPS, MBA
Dr. Stevens is the founding Director of the Master of Science in Accounting Program at Bay Path University. Her teaching philosophy is “theory to practice” enabled by over a decade of teaching accounting and years of hands-on experience working in the accounting profession.
Dr. Stevens work experience ranges from working as an auditor for a public accounting firm, as an accountant for a publicly traded manufacturing company, and as a controller for a large not-for-profit organization. This background provides Kara with insights and perspectives on the unique accounting needs and regulations for a variety of organizations and companies. This experience proves invaluable to her students. In the classroom, Kara makes accounting relevant to the “real world.” As an advisor she works hard to help students prepare for their career advancement in accounting.
Dr. Stevens is a certified public accountant and a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst earning both her BBA and MBA in Accounting. Dr. Stevens is also a graduate of Pace University in NYC, where she earned her doctorate degree in finance. The focus of her doctoral research extensively covers the efficacy of financial and economic literacy programs.
She is a member of the Massachusetts Society of CPAs, American Institute of CPAs, and the American Accounting Association. Kara is on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement and is passionate about the financial and economic literacy of the youth in our region. Kara is also involved in the Girls Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts. Kara is a 2015 recipient of the Emerging Leader MSCPA Women to Watch Award and 2016 recipient of the Business West 40 Under Forty award.
