The first lesson that I learned at Bay Path was to believe in myself and in my potential. The fact that Bay Path is an all-women’s university is unique. We are a different breed of college students. Not only do we believe in ourselves, but we believe in each other. My original plan when first coming to Bay Path was to go to class and go home. I quickly realized that that was not an option. My peers and professors believed I could do more, go further, and so I did. I joined the field hockey team, I joined the Education Club, and I went on the Capitals of the World trip to Amsterdam. With the support of the faculty, staff, my friends, and family, I believed in myself and I accomplished more than I could’ve ever imagined.
“Carpe Diem.” ― Latin proverb
Seize every and all possibilities. I have this saying in my room, on my jewelry, and in my planner. I constantly remind myself to “carpe diem” each day. This quote especially helped me on the Capitals of the World trip to Amsterdam. I was out of my comfort zone, but I was surrounded by great friends in one of the best cities in the world. Having a “carpe diem” mentality allowed me to explore the city and make great memories with my Bay Path family.

This is a saying that I tell myself and my students. It forces yourself to think about what you’re doing and how it is being perceived. I model my behavior on the positive influences that I have encountered at Bay Path. From everyday interactions with my professors to listening to Arianna Huffington make a speech at the Women’s Leadership Conference, I have learned how to be gracefully confident. I model this behavior, hoping that my influence will rub off on those I interact with.
