Bay Path University Launches Master’s Program in Reading & Literacy Instruction
Longmeadow, MA—Bay Path University is pleased to announce the launch of its
MSEd/EdS in Reading & Literacy Instruction, now enrolling for July.
The University’s MSEd/EdS in Reading & Literacy Instruction links the science of
reading with educational practice, and is uniquely designed to prepare graduates for
leadership in the implementation of scientific research-based practices for teaching
literacy in grades PreK-12. The program offers individuals the opportunity to develop an
expertise in using effective, research-based strategies to teach reading and writing in
general education and specialized settings.
“A teacher’s competence and expertise can be fostered with training that emphasizes the
study of reading and writing development, a structured language approach, and
individual student differences,” Janet Stratton, MEd, Program Coordinator, said.
“Throughout the program, students will learn key elements for an effective literacy
model, including current effective teaching practices; comprehensive, valid and reliable
assessment systems to inform decisions about reading and writing instruction and
intervention; how to prioritize instructional time; evidence-based intensive
interventions for students at risk for reading and writing difficulty; parent and family
engagement; and more.”
Stratton is the president and founder of The Reading Institute (TRI), which began as her
own mission to help children learn by training teachers. As a teacher, reading specialist,
and founder and president of TRI, Stratton has worked for over 40 years in the field of
education. TRI trains teachers and administrators across the New England states and
New York in literacy, education leadership, assistive technology, and mathematics
through workshops, courses, and degree and licensure programs. TRI has been an
educational resource for teachers and administrators since 1991. As president, Stratton
oversees professional development, degree programs, and licensure programs, and has
developed partnerships with school districts and colleges/universities.
Bay Path University's MSEd/EdS in Reading & Literacy Instruction aims to prepare
graduates to take their careers to the next level in a field with great demand. Reading
specialists who work with students who have physical,
expect a similar salary to special education teachers, whose job growth is expected at 8%
