Summer Discovery: Campers Learn and Play at Bay Path University’s Go Girls!
Longmeadow, MA— Nearly 100 girls ages five to 12
through art, theater, computers, sports, and team games at Bay Path University’s Go
Girls! summer program this season.
The program’s professional and caring staff this year featured 18 students from the
University’s occupational therapy (OT) graduate program who were conducting their
Level 1 fieldwork placement under the supervision of assistant professor Sarah
Hernandez. Each of the three weeklong sessions was led by a new group of six OT
students who ran games and activities that promoted cohesion, teamwork, and
communication. The program team also included six additional students enrolled in
various academic programs and one alumna, as well as members of Bay Path
University’s dedicated staff.
Campers enjoyed a new theme each week: Around the World, Wizards Week, and Under
the Sea. Fresh beignets were served during the France-themed day of the Around the
World week. A magic show and exotic mystical animals delighted attendees during
Wizards Week. For Under the Sea, face painting and balloon animal vendors visited
campus. After each week packed with thematic activities, the program concluded with a
opportunity to get on stage and perform either individually or as part of a group.
Bay Path University’s Go Girls! campers leave with a sense of confidence and
accomplishment that makes the program a lifelong experience. Not only that, but they
find themselves returning to Go Girls! week after week, and even year after year—often
becoming program leadership themselves.
