Learning Facilities & Technology

The Philip H. Ryan Health Science Center feature state-of-the-art lab spaces and technology designed for hands-on learning.

Lab and Learning Spaces

The Ryan Center has four lab spaces specifically designed for each major OT discipline.

Anatomy Lab

In the anatomy lab, students develop a working knowledge of anatomical structures using models, bones, and prosected cadavers. Students learn and apply skills to locate and assess the musculoskeletal and neurological systems of the body that impact function.

Physical Agent Modality Lab

Within this lab space, students work to apply skills of custom fitting and fabricating orthoses for varied client needs. Students use their knowledge of physical agent modalities to implement the setup and administration of electrical simulation, ultrasound, and various thermal modalities.

Psychosocial Lab

This lab space provides students with the opportunity to practice implementing multiple cognitive and functional assessments utilized in mental health and geriatric practice. Within the space, students both oversee and participate in mental health groups utilizing varied creative materials to hone their clinical and counseling skills.

Pediatric Lab

This space is outfitted with suspension equipment where students can observe and participate in various sensory and vestibular treatment modalities, including swinging. The space allows for creative hands-on gross motor and fine motor tasks and tabletop activities. Filled with colorful toys, and fine and gross motor supplies, the pediatric lab is ideal for learning about sensory integration evaluations and techniques for intervention. The space also houses numerous pediatric assessments utilized in practice and applied by students.

Model Apartment

Unique to Bay Path, our model apartment is specially designed to give OT students real-world experience. Many occupational therapists work within a client’s home, so there’s no better way to learn than in our model apartment. This room has been designed for students to experience floor transitions from carpet to tile and different furniture styles, like firm or soft couches, chairs, or recliners. Students also are exposed to working appliances, including a top and front-loading washer and dryer. The apartment also includes a full bathroom where students can learn to use specialized equipment and how to identify hazards and risks in a client’s home.

Classroom Technology

All classrooms at the Health Science Center are equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Each room is furnished with a podium-supported computer, mounted computerized projectors, drop drown screens, and voice amplification when needed

Other spaces available to students in the facility include:

Wellness Room - Equipped with light exercise equipment for student’s use.

Multipurpose Classroom - Used for various things, including study space, classroom space, student events, special lectures, and group study.

Collaborative Classroom - Designed for an optimal academic group work setting. Used for presentations with two projector screens and air technology.

Resource Room - This room is considered an MOT student’s mini library. It holds every text and material a student needs to complete the program.
