Prior Learning Assessment

Earn College Credit for Prior Work, Military, or Volunteer Service

As an adult, you probably have considerably more advanced knowledge and skills than you know. Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) is the process of earning college credit for college-level learning acquired from sources other than college - such as work experience, professional training, military training, or volunteer service.

While eligibility for Prior Learning Credits is determined on an individual basis, the following types of prior experience are often eligible:

  • Professional certifications, licenses and training programs
  • Attendance at seminars, workshops and conferences
  • Prior experiences in professional fields, travel and/or volunteerism

Earning PLA credits involves identifying,  categorizing and organizing your learned knowledge and skills. Through our PLA program, you may be able to earn up to 30 college credits toward your college degree.
